Alcoholism as a Spirit

Recently, I heard a born again Kanye West say “liquor” is called spirits because it is a type of evil spirit.

How insightful!! Alcoholism destroys many lives—If not an actual spirit, it facilitates evil. This is why Paul made that direct comparison between drunkenness and the Holy Spirit in Ephesians 5:8

• And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Excess is the opposite of temperance, a fruit of the spirit?

Sisters, if we encounter alcoholics this season, let’s kindly say a prayer. Alcoholism cannot be fought only by mental health treatment but also with prayers.

Now looking back at a memorable encounter with a homeless man on the streets of Brooklyn 20 years ago, instead of handing him a $20 note on my way to church —which he used to buy liquor —I could have used the name of Jesus to set him free… #growingInChrist, #OurGodIsTimeless
